This growing service provides therapy to those suffering predominantly from heart and lung conditions. Services include:
- pre and post surgery care for cardiac, abdominal or lung disorders and transplants
- mobility and exercise programmes after heart attacks or diagnosed heart conditions
- weight loss and exercise before cardiac surgery
- therapy for pneumonia and chest infections
- asthma advice and treatment
- therapy for breathing discoordination and hyperventilation syndrome
- therapy for chronic lung diseases such as emphysema, bronchiectasis, pulmonary fibrosis and lung cancer
- therapy for general weakness from long-term morbidity
The goals of treatment are to:
- increase general exercise tolerance after surgery
- increase ventilation of the lungs after illness or surgery
- aid in the clearance of secretions in the lungs
- improve activities of daily living after surgery or illness
- reduce breathlessness through advice on breathing, exercise, adaptations and energy saving advice.
